Organic Basics

How to Choose Organic Products Without Getting Confused

Organic labels vary by country and by category. Here is what each mark actually guarantees, and which certifications matter most in Kuwait.

Walk into an organic aisle and you face a dozen logos: USDA Organic, EU Organic, Soil Association, Demeter, Bio Suisse, NSF, Rainforest Alliance. Most matter, but they do not mean the same thing.

The strictest certifications

  • EU Organic Bio — no synthetic pesticides, limited additives
  • Soil Association — stricter than EU Bio, audits annually
  • Demeter — full biodynamic farming standard
  • Bio Suisse — strict Swiss organic standard
  • GFCO — gluten-free below 20ppm
  • Rainforest Alliance — sustainability and welfare focus

What to look for on the box

Ingredient lists shorter than 8 items, sugars near the bottom, no ‘natural flavours’ filler, no refined starches, and no inflammatory seed oils. The shorter the list, the cleaner the product — whatever the packaging says.
